My art practice explores the ritualistic tendencies and theological nature of our bodies. In other words, I make art about the body and how it responds to god or God(s). My practice—as it has taken shape today—began in 2014 when I was getting my BFA in Design at BIOLA University. The school itself was both a wonderful and terrifying place to explore my queerness, religion, and these new found spaces in my body. I began experimenting with the body as medium in 2016. My practice centered around how we experience spiritual phenomena in our bodies. This could be through prayer, meditation, ritual, self regulating techniques, ect.

In my practice, I uncovered a deep fascination with liminal spaces—the 'in-between' cognitive spaces that are created when we are untethered from time and space. That all sounds very woo-woo and convoluted, yet we've all had a liminal experience. For example, think about a time when you felt scared or traumatized (these are often the easiest to trigger the body). That brief moment of tension and stress is your body's way of accessing that moment. Though we are here in the present, our body is able to feel all the things it felt from the past, transcending both the time, and the space of that event.

My practice seeks to broaden our access to the body—not just as a way to tap into our past traumas—but to experience the fullness of our joy, our prosperity, and our individual truth. I'm interested in the role religion and spiritual disciplines shape this idea, unlocking our bodies and minds so that we can experience the full breadth of awareness. I am so grateful to all my teachers, and those who have participated in my work as I continue to grow and learn.
